So I obviously don't mean Sick Mind the way you think I do. Or maybe I do but you don't know I do and neither do I know that I do. That's a lot of DO's. Whoa.
Anyway, What I mean is, I've been stuck on a couch the entire week. REAL FUN, eh? Dumb Michelle gave me a nasty stomach bug and now my parents have it too. What a drag, dude.
ON WITH THE MUSINGS.
So I was thinking today, why is everyone so buzzed about the New Year? I mean the only NEW things that are happening are with concerns to our government. Yeah, there's a new BLACK president. That's pretty cool; I mean President Barack Obama is a VISIONARY. Absolutely breathtaking in his speeches. This man should have been a musician. With the way his words flow off his tongue and the way his voice knows just what to do is marvelously musical. There's no doubt about it. And the way he has already inspired the populace leaves me very excited about the next four years. I hope he gets re-elected. though maybe it's too early to tell. Regardless, I predict he will be the beginining of a much needed reform in our desperate country.
But nothing else is NEW. You still see smog and shootings and Micheal Jackson; This is to say, we still have tons of work to do. I guess it's always good to be excited for a new day because, after all, days are what change history, but come on. Why go party and get drunk and blow horns and shoot fireworks and throw confetti and make a fool of yourself just for this new day, January 1st? It's ridiculous. I say, if you're gonna make such a big deal about one new day, live for EVERY new day. Or, better yet, live for every new minute- No, every new second- if you're gonna get all dressed up and spend hundreds on champaign and caviar just to stand around and count down to this ULTIMATE moment. Live for the seconds, cherish each minute, and seize the day, am I right? The new dawn is always exciting so why buy goofy 2009 glasses? just buy a goofy hat or a fun little tiara and forget about that NEW YEAR.
Another thing I was thinking about-
Why do women insist on being treated equally and yet stand by an outdated overrated "Code of Chivalry?" I hear ladies say things all the time along the lines of "My man BETTER carry my shopping bags," and "A GENTLEMAN would take out the trash for me!"
It's plain stupid. People need to realize men and women CAN'T be treated equally. There are things that men do best, such as sports and carpentry, and things women do best, such as mothering and crafts. Don't get me wrong; there are MANY who can traverse the lines and do it splendidly, but asa whole, men and women are VERY different. You don't have to take Health in high school to know that; It's instinctual. It's like trying to ask a child to solve the cancer problem or an adult to imagine a perfect world. Some could do it and do it well, but as a whole it's not right to expect equality between adukts and children, nore is it right to expect men and women to be completely the same. I say celebrate the differences, instead of trying to eliminate them.
That isn't to say that we shouldn't have equal LEGAL rights; everyone, no matter their culture or age or location should be entitled to the same rights. I'm just saying it's not fair to expect people to assimilate themselves with something they aren't. People, man woman black white hispanic asian you name it, should all be able to chose the way they go and if that means a girl doesn't want to play sports than by God's plan she shouldn't have to. And if a boy doesn't want to be the lead in the musical, that's perfect, because no one should be encouraged into something that they don't want to do.
Nowe people are going to think I'm being sexist; On the contrary, I'm probably being one of the most just and fair people you'll ever meet. I mean good gracious, my boyfriend is a male cheerleader. I'm all for whatever floats one's boat. I'm just saying the assimilation some coaches and teachers and even parents have come to think is right is in fact cruel and one of the worst ways to punish their children, friends, and co-workers.
IF you're understanding my rants so far, or just plain have'nt given up yet, extra kudos to you cuz it's about to get a ton more Transcendentalist and philosophising on you. This is going to be FUN.
Furthermore, why have social codes? If we can say what a word means, why can't we say a word? We can say poop but not other words. We can say jerk but never ever the forbidden "A" word. Why does it matter? Have people become so ingrained in SOCIETY that they have it choose their vocabulary for them? Has it become so much a part of our lives that we can't even see past it?
And clothes. I can understand for warmth. But come on, if you think about it, "private" areas of a person's body are just that; another area of their body. Things like sex and intamacy have been taken from their original purposes and made into something they should have never been. Love is a falsehood now; Buying candies and expecting gifts and pampering is NOT what love is about. It's ironic that a teenager can see this, but love is supposed to be about cooperation and commitment, and being happy with the simple things; being happy together. I would much rather my boytoy beat me at video games than him go buy me a fancy dinner and an expensive piece of jewelry. I would much rather learn how to stunt with him and wrestke with him than go see a movie or on a fancy date. Love is about living life and sharing it with someone who makes you happy that you want to make happy in return. Nowhere in there do I glimpse anything about candles and champaign.
You keeping up?
And how can we demolish nature like we do? Sure, we need homes and places to get our needs met (supermarkets, hospitals firehouses, sanitation buildings, etc.) and to some extent places for leisure. But everything and everyone would be better off if there were fewer malls, fewer clothing stores, fewer restauraunts, and all those luxaries. Look at it for a second- The economy would be better because there would be a greater demand for goods and corporations could afford to keep prices lower because, after all, Guuci and Chanel wouldn't be competing for the most money. People could save so much more and we could focus on important things like sciene and art rather than focusing on comercialism and luxary. But SOCIETY has taken it way too far and instead of thriving, we are crashing and burning up all that America once stood for. What happened to FREEDOM? We are slaves to our civilization, slaves to our overwhelming culture. One day, it will swallow us up.
I really think that's all the ranting you can stand to read for now, but there's more to come soon.
Always with love,
~AMIE~
